Latest KANETIX infographic depicts how music affects motorists

TORONTO, ON, August 1, 2013 - KANETIX releases its latest infographic which demonstrates how the music drivers listen to in the car has an impact on driving behaviours, from accidents to speeding tickets.

The 'How Music Impacts Your Driving' infographic visualizes data from a survey commissioned by KANETIX.ca which revealed that the music preferences of motorists are linked to driving behaviours.

"As an auto insurance quote comparison service, we thought it would be interesting to examine the relationship of music and driving behaviours to see if listening preferences could have an impact on insurance premiums," says Janine White, vice president of marketplaces at KANETIX.

When it comes to accidents, Hip Hop and R&B listeners top the list with 60 per cent claiming to have been in an at fault accident, compared to only 53 per cent nationally. On the other hand, Alternative Rock listeners were the least likely to have been in an at fault accident. Regardless of music preference in the car, about one-in-five Canadians have been at fault in one accident-this increases to one-in-four for Talk Radio listeners.

Drivers who listen to Talk Radio in the car are also guilty of pushing the pedal to the metal with 49 per cent claiming they have received one to three speeding tickets compared to 40 per cent overall.

Those who prefer to listen to Country or Classic Rock are more likely to be pulled over for a driving under the influence (DUI) charge than those who listen to Pop / Top 40 or Alternative Rock.

The KANETIX survey also revealed motorists who prefer listening to Folk music have mastered the art of how to slow the folk down. Forty-nine per cent of folk listeners have never had a speeding ticket compared to 37 per cent overall. There were also the least likely to have been pulled over.
