Kingston car insurance information

The city of Kingston is located at the eastern end of Lake Ontario in Ontario, Canada, and is the spot where the Thousand Islands begin in the St. Lawrence River. The city boasts the motto "Where history and innovation thrive" and has a metropolitan population of approximately 146,838. Kingston also has the nickname "Limestone City" as many historic buildings here are built from Limestone.

The French were the first to settle the area located on a Mississaugas First Nation site. The place was firstly know as Fort Cataraqui and then later became Fort Fronenac. The original Fort was captured and destroyed in 1758. It became the main southeastern community of Upper Canada at the time. At the end of the 18th century, Molly Brant, sister of Joseph Brant (known for founding Brantford) helped to expand the population of the area by bringing Mohawks from Six Nations in New York, to settle here.

Kingston, as it later became known as, was the base for the Great Lakes British Naval Fleet during the war of 1812 with America. After the war, the British built Fort Henry to protect the Rideau Canal from invasion and this fort is a popular tourist attraction to this day. Canada's first Prime Minister called Kingston home - Sir John A. Macdonald.

Today, Kingston derives much of its employment from the public sector. Also, Kingston is home to Canada's largest concentration of correctional facilities in Canada with nine institutions.
